Interview with an SEO Wizard

We recently added a new member to the Mabble Team who specializes in SEO Magic (or as Bobby calls it: making you internet famous). We sat down with Laura to talk about what SEO is, why it’s important, and how it could benefit you.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a digital marketing approach focused on growing a company’s visibility for search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. There are many elements involved in search engine optimization. This includes everything from making sure your website is built with SEO in mind, to the verbiage on your website, to the way other sites link to you online. SEO isn’t just about building search engine-friendly websites; It’s about making your site better for people too. Search engine optimization campaigns consist of both the technical coding side as well as the creative side of marketing and web management. It takes a mixture both of these to come up on the first page of search engine results and to see an increase in traffic and revenue.

Translation: Having good SEO means that when someone types “Coffee Shop Reno” into their search bar, your coffee shop is the first thing that comes up. Having bad SEO is like wearing the wrong name tag to a social event where you don’t know anyone.

Why does a website need SEO?

Search engine traffic can make or break a company’s success. Although other types of traffic can generate visits to your website, most people turn to search engines to find the product or service they are looking for. If search engines cannot find you, you miss out on incredible opportunities to drive traffic to your website. The Internet is becoming increasingly competitive and those companies who perform SEO campaigns will have a huge advantage over their competitors.

Translation: Not having SEO is kind of like starting a boys clothing line and setting up your shop in an all-girls school. Don’t get trapped in the far reaches of the internet where no one will find you!

How is SEO done exactly?

The goal of SEO isn’t to “game” search engines. The purpose of SEO is to create a seamless user experience and to communicate to search engines what you do so they can recommend your website for relevant searches. To do this, you simply need to consider user intent, create great content and ensure the proper linking is being done to lead users to what they are looking for.

Translation: We’re not trying to trick google into liking you. We’re letting google know you both are interested in the same things, and you can be trusted. That way a relationship will form organically!
